Central African Republic
Development Partner Consultation

26 June 2007 | Brussels

Welcome

As of the end of 2006, the Central African Republic has been able to re-engage with the international financial community and made considerable macro-economic progress. In view of these positive developments, the Central African government, with the technical support of UNDP and the World Bank, is preparing a series of meetings and consultations with development partners to outline its reconstruction programme for the next three years.

The first meeting in this series of consultations has taken place on 26 June 2007 in Brussels. It was the first of its kind since the establishment of the current government following the free and transparent elections of 2005. It will be followed by a Round Table in the autumn of 2007, hosted by the European Union, with the support of UNDP and the World Bank.

Objectives of the development partner consultation

  • Inform CAR’s partners about the socio-political situation of the country, and the development problems that it faces
  • Present the record of policies put in place by the government since the 2005 elections, their pertinence, and lessons learned
  • Explain the government’s strategy to overcome the challenges of reconstruction and development
  • Initiate an open and substantive dialogue with the donor community in view of engaging donor support for the reconstruction and economic recovery of the country
  • Agree upon the terms of future consultations between CAR and its development partners, in the aim of translating donor support into funding programmes for CAR

Please consult the background section and other available documents for more information on the meeting and CAR.
